Three siblings touring West Coast USA... May 2005

This is a travelogue of us tiga beradik on our 2 weeks holiday through Los Angeles - San Francisco - Las Vegas - Grand Canyon - Los Angeles.

Ina was graduating... Abang has not been on a holiday for a long time... and I, well... I'm just the person who has to pay for the trip just kidding... I've always wanted to visit the west coast of USA, having visited the east coast 3 times.

It was quite hard arranging the trip... didn't get the dates we wanted to travel (MATTA fair... can't be too choosy), had to persuade my boss repeatedly to allow me to take 2 1/2 weeks off from work, difficulties with Abang's visa (that was the worst!!)... but everything else was ok, thanks to the internet!!
Booked all our domestic (US) flights, hotels, car rental online... got pretty good deals too.

We drove A LOT!! Luckily we rented a large car (by Malaysian standards... the size of a Camry). So it was quite comfortable. Had some *narrow escapes* enroute as well... Took a bit of getting used to... driving on the other side of the road. Fortunately Ina has plenty of experience driving in the US (since she had a car over there) and we got automatic cars, hehe...
But I tell you... driving on the freeways with large trailers (and I mean LARGE!! HUGE!!) passing by at high speed was quite scary! My *Camry-sized* car suddenly felt like a Kancil. Ina and I took turns driving... have to, with the amount of distance that we were covering. My siblings were also great navigators... of course we had the aid of Rand McNally's Road Atlas and point-to-point directions from Mapquest The only time we got lost was in LA.. well, not really lost but with the intertwining freeways, it's a miracle if you can get around without at least once tersilap jalan.

Stayed in budget hotels (of course lar... MYR doesn't go that far in US) but we didn't mind. Since we're out and about jalan-jalan throughout the day anyway The only time we splurged was in Las Vegas... because we wanted to be *in the thick of it*... itu pun it wasn't the Bellagio

I must say... that I was quite surprised that my favourite experience during the trip was visiting Grand Canyon... it's so breathtakingly beautiful!! All the glitters of Las Vegas, the charm of San Francisco and the glamour of Los Angeles can't compare.
I'm glad we made our way to Grand Canyon... almost excluded this natural wonder from our itinerary because it required 8 hours drive each way. But Ina insisted and said that "this is our chance... when will we ever come here again? Nak pergi jugak!"

Uji...Reading this..U made me feel compulsory to visit Grand Canyon. We have planned it last ThanksGiving holiday, tapi cancelled. InsyaAllah one fine day! Love to see your pictures in this West Coast adventure! I myself have not been to some places u've been here despite living in San Diego for a year now! (Awat hang tak visit San Diego?..Not glamour enough huh.. ) Thu 15-Feb-2007 23:27

Day13.. final day & goin' home

Our last day in LA... flying off to KL tonight. What a blast it has been... time flies when you're having fun

We got tickets to watch the taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Had to find our way to Burbank... got lost a bit and had to stop for directions. Quite excited... have never been to a tv show taping before.
The guests were Ron Howard, the guy who acts as Bree's hubby in Desperate Housewives and a female country singer.

The flight back to Malaysia was at 11.35pm... which meant that we had roughly 4 hours to rush back from the taping, have dinner, mandi and check-in. The flight was full which meant a lot of waiting time at the airport to check-in for Ina and Abg... but I had upgraded myself to Business class (used up all my enrich points... well worth it!!) so had the luxury of checking in later.

Was quite an uneventful flight... all I remembered was that it was a veeeerrry long flight. Always kesian kat Abg... he's tall and big, must be quite uncomfortable for him. He even said "no more long flights for me".
